Buying or Selling a Home Is More Than a Financial Decision
Let’s be real.
Buying or selling a home is a huge deal.
And it’s not just because of the money involved.
It’s emotional.
It’s personal.
It’s exciting.
It’s stressful.
And sometimes, it’s all of those things at the exact same time. š
That’s something I try to remember every time I work with a buyer or seller.
Put Yourself in Their Shoes
One of the questions I ask myself throughout the process is:
āWhat would I want if I were on the other side of the table?ā
That simple question guides a lot of the decisions I make for my clients.
If I’m buying a house, I’d want someone who listens.
I’d want someone who tells me the truthāeven when the truth isn’t necessarily what I want to hear.
I’d want someone who understands that this is a major financial decision but also understands that it’s my home.
And if I’m selling, I’d want someone who knows the market, understands the strategy, communicates clearly, and has a plan.
That’s the kind of Realtor I try to be.
Real Estate Is Personal
It’s easy to look at a real estate transaction as a series of numbers.
List price.
Offer price.
Interest rate.
Closing costs.
Days on market.
Square footage.
Comps.
Those numbers matter. A lot.
But behind every number is a person.
Someone may be selling the house where they raised their family.
Someone may be buying their very first home.
Someone might be moving closer to their kids.
Someone might be starting a completely new chapter.
Someone might simply be ready for something different.
Those circumstances matter just as much as the numbers.
My Job Isn’t to Make the Decision for You
I don’t believe a Realtor’s job is to tell you what you should do.
My job is to help you understand your options, give you honest advice, explain what I’m seeing in the market, and help you make a decision that makes sense for you.
Sometimes that means telling a seller they’re priced too high.
Sometimes it means telling a buyer that I don’t think a particular house is worth the money.
Sometimes it means slowing down instead of rushing into a decision.
And sometimes it means encouraging someone to go for it.
The right answer isn’t always the easiest answer.
But you deserve an advisor who will give it to you straight.
Making Real Estate More Human
At the end of the day, that’s what I’m trying to do.
Make the real estate process feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more human.
I’ll bring the market knowledge, experience, negotiation skills, and strategy.
But I’ll also try to remember that I’m working with a personānot just another transaction.
That’s the way I’d want to be treated.
And that’s the way I want to treat my clients.
