Some of my favorite real estate deals aren’t necessarily the biggest ones.
They’re the ones that have a story behind them.
Recently, I had the opportunity to help the parents of some friends move to the Des Moines area so they could be closer to their grandchildren.
And honestly, that’s the kind of real estate story that sticks with me.
It’s More Than Buying a House
On paper, the transaction was pretty straightforward.
A family was moving to Des Moines. They needed to find a home. I helped them search, evaluate their options, negotiate, and get to the closing table.
But that’s not really what was happening.
They weren’t just buying a house.
They were buying more time with their family.
More dinners together.
More birthdays.
More school events.
More Saturday mornings.
More opportunities to be part of their grandchildren’s everyday lives.
That’s a pretty great reason to move.
This Is Why I Love Real Estate
It’s easy to talk about real estate in terms of square footage, interest rates, prices, inspections, and closing dates.
And believe me, I spend plenty of time talking about all of those things.
But underneath all of it are people’s lives.
Sometimes you’re helping a young couple buy their first home.
Sometimes you’re helping a family find more space.
Sometimes you’re helping someone downsize.
And sometimes you’re helping grandparents move across the state because they want to be closer to the people they love.
Those are the transactions that remind me why I enjoy this business.
A House Can Change More Than Your Address
Where you live affects your everyday life.
It determines how far you are from family, where your kids go to school, where you spend your weekends, and how often you see the people who matter most.
That’s why I don’t think my job is simply to help someone find a house.
It’s to help them find a place that fits the life they’re trying to build.
And every once in a while, that means helping bring a family a little closer together.
Those are the deals I’ll remember.
