It didn’t take long for me to get to the important business at the Iowa State Fair.
The new food.
On my first day at the Fair, I made it my mission to try all three of the new foods that had caught my attention. And while all three were good, one clearly came out on top.
The Three Contenders
First up was the All American Egg Roll from Winn and Sara’s Kitchen.
Then I tried the Porky Parm Gnocchi from Destination Grille.
And finally, I had the mini apple pie with cinnamon ice cream.
All three were worth trying. But there can only be one winner.
And the Winner Is…
The All American Egg Roll. 🏆
This one took it for me.
It was fresh, well-made, and packed with flavor. And here’s my highly scientific rating system:
Would I eat it for breakfast? Yep.
**Would I eat it as an afternoon snack? Absolutely.
Would I go back for another one? 100%.
That’s a pretty strong endorsement coming from someone who takes Iowa State Fair food very seriously.
Why I Love the Iowa State Fair
One of my favorite things about the Iowa State Fair is that there is always something new to discover.
You can go for the rides, the concerts, the livestock, the exhibits, the people-watching—or, if you’re like me, you can build your entire day around figuring out what you’re going to eat next.
And that’s part of what makes the Fair so fun.
There are the classics that you have to get every year, but there are also new foods and new experiences that give you a reason to come back.
This year, the new food lineup definitely delivered.
My Official Ranking
If I had to rank the three I tried:
🥇 All American Egg Roll — Winn and Sara’s Kitchen
🥈 Porky Parm Gnocchi — Destination Grille
🥉 Mini Apple Pie with Cinnamon Ice Cream
But honestly, you can’t go too wrong with any of them.
And if you see me walking around the Iowa State Fair, there’s a pretty good chance I’m either looking for another new food to try or already carrying one.
I know a guy who never turns down a reason to try new fair food.
And that guy is me.
